Wanted Man With Yacht

Live on Campus

January, February, Hong Kong, Orientation Week, and continues Fraser Iceland's ...

... hopefully after this short but informative overview of what is in the last 3 months all done, it gets serious. The semester at the University of the Sunshine Coast (abbreviated USC) has begun.

University of the Sunshine Coast

The USC is one of the youngest universities in Australia. It belongs in this country but also to the universities with rapid growth. With about 5,000 students, of which about 900 international (I computed), USC is a relatively small university. Australia wide it has the largest library and is generally on the cutting edge of technology, which has earned it one way or another award.

main building

There is a lot of things from good old Germany ( short: GOG) differ .

Let's start with the lectures. It is not unusual when the professors teaching a hot start Playing records, such as Red Hot Chili Peppers, Linkin Park or any other band. I guess the fact that the people should be relaxed, which worked out pretty well.

addition is many a lecture requires a quiz round, and that works this way: "stand up please everyone," ... the quiz question is asked (of course, technical), "each of the answer do not know your re-sit," ... question to question is in this form continues until only two or three students are available. As a reward they will receive a candy bar. For safety and comfort as I always take my own chocolate bar with the lecture.

acquires beginning of the semester each student a prescribed text book per course (from the University Bookshop Acquire $$$$$).

The course takes about 55 minutes, training sessions for 120 min (I think, 55 minutes little better I think here the German system).

weekly papers that are graded are to be delivered at a scientific level and on time.
group presentations and a final paper per course complete the whole.
intermediate exams are already a month after the semester begins and a final written exam concludes the semester.
In short, the stress of a study last month before the exams in GoG all, one already from the first week (if that does what I see at the end of the semester).

we come to the technical equipment. Devices such as digital overhead projectors, optical controlled whiteboards, and computer labs (open 24 / 7 access via student ID) are here for good sound. Some of these things have been new to me.

On PC and Unix consultancy :-)
particular interest here is the printing system. After having charged his ID card, you normally send print jobs to a printer. Then you go to designated printing stations, logs in with his user name, select their print jobs and sends it to the printer ready. You can also copy with the same ID card. In practice, right?

Campus

The university itself is quite large. Therefore, the space is sufficient even for a few kangaroos.

three kangaroos (two photogenic)

learned is usually in the library or other air-conditioned room. The heat outside is simply incompatible with the human body and brain. The sun here really absorbed any recorded information.
my opinion, could the good people a little air conditioning turn down. It shivers me in there forever.

After a long journey, an even longer Orientation - week and several bruises and open wounds hüftabwärts starts, finally my semester Australia.

But this post is dedicated exclusively to the origin or cause of my bruises - my weekend trip to Fraser Iceland!

After a hard day's entertainment in the O-week I decided to attend a university in-house tour to Fraser Iceland. What and where Fraser Iceland (FI) is? FI is a relatively small island about three hours away from my university. (Question now is not where my university is). The island is about 130 km long and 40 km and also a World Heritage Site.
Via bus it was going on Friday morning ... the ferry took us from Rainbow Beach to within ten minutes FI. Probably noticed we were sitting now in 4WD (Four Wheel Drive = four-wheel drive) SUV, pretty brisk this.

Between Short Info: on the island there is a speed limit of 80 km / h on the beach. A Drivers lincence (license) is not needed.

Dilli Village, no this has nothing to do with vegetables was our goal. A kind of private preserve of the university for research purposes.
unpack things fresh and make short fast followed by a short important for survival training.

"... please beware before the poisonous snakes ..." This sentence seemed very calm to me. We were taught how we should behave after a snake bite, with the additional observation that the bite was careless of a black snake, they would face in ten minutes his Creator. Somehow I had after that remark ...!!!! relaxed
In Germany it is compulsory to always carry an identity card with them to FI, it is the flashlight. So everyone got to us. Nevertheless, I succeeded in the heat of battle over a few dozen to trip over wooden beams, Result: 1 blue Fleck + 2 open wounds.

Now I was well equipped to rule the island to tear at me.
The Friday was pretty quiet. A little (the emphasis is on "the beach", not further because the sharks) to the beach, a little barbecue (BBQ) and general getting to know the participants.

The Tower of Babel

After a deep sleep in the middle of the wilderness between lizards, plate-sized spiders, snakes, dingoes (canine-like animal), sharks, rays, dolphins and other moving animals , Saturday began with a half-hour walk through a tropical jungle. We first ascended the mountain of the world's largest sand and then I popped one in the lake had the warmest I have ever seen. Probably noticed we always followed a warm and very pleasant rain.

biggest sand mountain in the world

In 4WD, it went on bumpy roads back into the reserve.
was liberally made a few sandwiches is also available again already with the goal of 70 km of coastal research, mind you with a total of four off-road vehicles along the beach, making fun irsinnigen and indescribably beautiful!
The culmination of our Auflugs should be a 'Champagne Pool ????????????' be.

But first some intermediate experience:

first Beach
second Beach
third Beach
4th then more beach
5th I bet that you think you can ...

Suddenly, lo and behold a few dingoes ...

... and a Fresh water, called Eli Creek (the largest of the island) ...

... and a luxury liner stranded anno 1939, on the beach ...

... and the Indian Head, a mountain with a head-like shape and a unique view of everything ...

... and finally a ... one about moving blue thing from the ocean (about the size of a fingernail!

Ahaa, so this is a Champagne Pool! Well, the same jumped in, free of any sharks, I enjoyed the first time a few shake the salty warmth of the ocean water ...

So much for Saturday ... ah the evening we went again to the collar or in the eye when annual GurkeVomAugeHerunterWackelnMitDerZungeOhneHände.

Sunday was pretty quiet on the other hand ...
a bit of rain forest tracking ...

... together romme ling management team (the reserve) ...

... and Mr. IchSchlagDichMitMeinemEinMeterLangenSchwanzWennDuMirZuNahKommst ...

Ah, a little thing I forgot to mention.
On the way back to college I got my

DELFIN FIRST SEEN!

Thanks Thomas, a German ex-African rangers, who took a different route home than the rest of the team, we met a dolphin the sponge along the beach.
A photo I managed no longer shoot. I get to, I promise!

you like a little resume:
- a gorgeous, beautiful, fascinating and breathtaking island somewhere in the nowhere
- 3 bruises, 2 open wounds, a little browning including sunburn and a few mosquito bites

So, it was again for Getting from down under.
I hope you liked, and of course I am looking forward to your comments.
